Sixty-two teams representing 10 countries met in Kingston Ontario in mid July for the J24 World championships.   Party Reptile represented District 8 in the US J24 Class Assn.    Nine races were held over 5 days in a variety of conditions, from 5-8 knots of wind and flat water to 25 knots and 4 – 6 foot waves. Needless to say, we liked the light conditions better.

All 62 teams were very good and very competitive. When mistakes were made, it was very difficult to work back up through the fleet. The high point of our week was a 7th place finish in one of Wednesday’s races. The top three positions all went to Newport Rhode Island "Fleet 50" sailors. Brad Read got the top spot. He also won in 2000.

second shot Overall it was a great trip and quite a sailing experience. We look forward to the 2004 Worlds which will be held in Connecticut.
