2008 MC/SAYRA Championship Series

-

Below are the current standings in the 2008 MC/SAYRA Championship Series. Thus far we have had 15 different participants sailing in 9 races in 2 regattas. Next in line will be the Rebel Rouser on April 26-27 followed by the Keowee Cup on May 3-4. A complete schedule is posted on the SAYRA website under the "one Design: tab. http://www.sayra-sailing.com/ My thanks to Sara Ashton for keeping our calendar current.

The scoring is based on an article writted by one Bill Grauer entitled "The Performance Gradient System.

It appears to be fair method to score a long series such as the MC/SAYRA championship involving regattas with varying number of boats in that it recognizes that a higher finish in a race with a large number of boats is harder to achieve that a higher finish in race with a smaller number of boats. Attached is a spreadsheet I put together which weights finishes up to a 40 boat fleet. (Halloween Regatta)

In that the objective of the MC/SAYRA Series is to encourage participation in MC regattas at SAYRA affilated clubs I modified the model so that anyone participating is any on the scheduled regattas will receive at a minimum the points assoicated with a DNC at each individual regatta. For example: if John Doe participates for the first time this season in the Rebel Rouser John will receive the points associated with a DNC at the Easter Regatta (6 races at .0625 per race ) and the Springboard (3 races at .050 per race). Thereafter, John will received the DNC points of any other regattas he might miss. The intent is to encourage joining the series at any point in the schedule. I think this is fair, at least it is my intent to be so and still promote widespread participation in SAYRA regattas.
