Membership Information

If you are interested in membership, please contact Augusta Sailing Club Membership Chair, membership@augustasailingclub.com.

Applicant Requirements:

Membership in the Augusta Sailing Club is reserved for those applicants with an active interest in sailing or supporting sailing. Membership applications shall provide information to document such interest. Previous experience is wonderful; however, we do expect sailing participation at Augusta Sailing Club prior to application. This may include adult sailing lessons, crewing on other boats, helping with Race Committee, etc.

Attendance at a minimum of two ASC Events as the guest of a sponsor or as an ASC sponsored regatta participant is required prior to submitting an application. If interested in membership, please contact the Membership Chair so that he or she can make arrangements for the Membership Committee to meet you at an ASC event.

New member applicants shall be sponsored by a primary and two secondary sponsors. The sponsors must be Active Members, one of which must have been a member for at least five years.  The primary sponsor shall be responsible for ensuring that the prospective member has an active interest in sailing and will guide the applicant through the application process, as well as invite them to club events. The applicant and their primary sponsor must contact the Past Commodore at least one month prior to submitting an application. This will allow time for the membership committee to meet all prospective members prior to their introduction to the board. Once three members have agreed to sponsor the applicant and all requirements have been met, the primary sponsor may ask for an application from the Membership Chair. It is the primary sponsor’s responsibility to see that the member applicant and all sponsors submit their specific parts of the application.

The Membership Committee shall review the application. If the application is complete and the committee feels the applicant is ready to be introduced, the Membership Chair shall schedule a Board Meeting for both the membership applicant and one of their sponsors to attend. Completed applications must be received by the 15th of the month to be considered for introduction at the next month's meeting. At this meeting the member applicant will
present their application, along with the initiation fee, and an E payment form to the Bookkeeper. The applicant will be asked to leave the meeting after introducing themselves to the Board. The Board shall review the application. If the application requirements have been met and the Board believes the applicant has an active interest in sailing or supporting sailing, the Board may approve it for publishing on the member website. A picture of the applicant, along with their bio from the application, will be posted and emailed to all members for review and comment. The Board shall vote on final approval at the next available Board meeting, no earlier than 10 days after the applicant information is published. The Board shall consider any comments received from members prior to voting on final approval.

The Past Commodore, upon approval of the application, shall contact the applicant and primary sponsor and will send a welcome letter to the applicant. Applicants typically become Associate Members for the first two years and must meet the Associate Membership requirements in order to maintain their ASC Membership. This includes 16 service hours per year, as well as participation in club events and sailing. Memberships will be reviewed for Active Status at the Associate’s two year anniversary.
